Is there a guide to self-host ente on a NAS? Self-hosting is free right?
They have a guide on their website
Self Hosting | Ente Help (extern)
That’s great! Is there a more dumbbed down version?
A step by step guide?
Note that I never installed self-hosted app so I’m not even sure how to start the server or install the app on a NAS.
just going to link to this thread: Port forwarding with radicale - #2 by ph00lt0
if you do not know what you are doing it is a bad idea to do self hosting.
I already manage a NAS and followed many guides to make sure everything is configured properly and securely (basically disabling a lot of ways to connect). It is also configured and connected to OpenVPN.
I never installed docker and if possible would like to avoid it.
I’d like to know if it’s possible to install an external app like ente to the NAS.
Would it not be possible to compile the app and install it with a step by step guide?
The way I see it, and I might be completely off track, is like compiling an .apk on android and installing it. Is it like that? If so, is it that hard to do?
Then I just need to make sure it is up to date at all time to make sure it’s secure?
What NAS do you have, some of them make using Docker very simple
It’s a QNAP NAS
Why? It will make your life harder, since many projects provide docker compose files as an example. Also you need some form of virtualization to properly separate your services anyway, be it docker or full-blown VMs.
Simply because I’m burned out of changing everything hahaha! I don’t know how it works, but could invest some time in this.
Also, I learned through the years that QNAP isn’t great at what it does, but I’m not willing to change as my setup is done (time is a limited resource you know? )
I once installed a third party app through the non-official app store, and it worked great initially, but my NAS got corrupted overtime and even with tech support, the recommendation was a fresh install. I had backups, but redoing all the setup is annoying.
