For further reading and discussion, here’s the previous thread on Ente Locker:
Is there an official apk download available anywhere? I cannot find one. ![]()
They may be going the Proton Auth route where a standalone app may not be available. But this is newly released so let’s give it more time.
It is already released as a separate app. It’s only officially released in the app stores though, which I don’t use. I’m looking for an official apk that’s available outside of big tech channels.
Aurora Store and F-Droid exist that you can use. Keeping up with updates is a bitch if you only directly download the standalone app. But whatever works for you I guess.
My system for keeping up with updates works fine, thanks. Obtainium exists for a reason and works great.
It only works when the devs make it a point to update the listing of the app sooner than it gets approved on the App Stores. I’ve noticed no real difference in how fast you get the app sometimes. But I do get people wanting to not use it on principle. I am the same and use all the non mainstream app stores. Just pointing it out.
None of this has anything to do with my question. I was asking if the apk is officially available to download anywhere.
I already said/suggested to give it more time as this is a new release. Besides that I don’t have anything else but the suggestion to use Aurora Store.
That’s all I got.
Technically the git repo will ALWAYS be the first thing updated so it’s quite a safe bet to expect it to be the first and most up to date place for the code. ![]()
An apk release is slightly different because it needs some CI tho.
But the source is not always the git repo for apps. For example: for Proton, Obtanium sources from protonapps.com
You can use Obtainium to fetch the apps from the page linked above somehow?
Doubt it.
And I’m mostly saying that the origin of everything will always be the source code because that’s just where you start and your destination.
If Proton doesn’t release theirs it’s not because it’s impossible but because they do not want to.
Anyway, an app can also prompt itself for an update without needing to do it from an app manager like Obtainium once downloaded.
I’m mostly saying that I do like to get my stuff from the source too, with less parties in the middle involved (if not adding some useful value).
Yes, I get proton apps from protonapps.com using obtainium.
I was very interested in this app but it’s missing a key feature, emergency access. I’m looking for somewhere to keep all the stuff my executors will need without granting access while I’m alive. What a shame bitwarden is better at this than ente locker.
Do you target https://protonapps.com/protonmail-android or something alike?
I use the setups from here https://apps.obtainium.imranr.dev/
It doesn’t have configs for all the proton apps but those included point to protonapps.com
It’s the Legacy option in the settings.
Ha, thanks
. What an idiot I am. I clicked it and was bemused by the authenticate screen. On trying against realised it’s just asking for my device pin ![]()
