Please help me figure out my email strategy:
-
Main inbox - Proton (never exposed)
- Routed to by SimpleLogin aliases (all services)
-
Tuta - full name; for government/personal stuff
-
?Tuta - abbreviated name; for work-related stuff (applying to jobs, general contact to me)*
-
Gmail - online name; possible future business enquiries/general contact for online identity (currently unused)
* maybe?
Questions:
-
Move government and/or personal stuff to a SimpleLogin alias?
-
Keep full name and abbreviated name emails separate or merge for simplicity & not too many accounts/inboxes?
-
Different email specifically for applying to jobs and/or job stuff? (maybe alias?)
What I want:
If using ProtonMail Plus or Unlimited, I suggest using different emails or even aliases and organize them in different folders or with labels. You can have a different name/shortened name per email as you wish. This way eliminates the need for multiple email service providers.
There’s no right or wrong way to do things here. For most flexibility, it’s best to use aliases for each purpose as you want and you can always change your alias or use your real email in the future should you want to.
You can’t get this with free though while wanting privacy. You’ll at-least have to pay for Proton Pass Plus/Simplelogin.
You can also look into using Duck aliases for each account which is free. As for privacy, that depends on your threat model.

I mean there are 10 (I have 15) free aliases in SL. While not much it is enough to maintain 1 real name alias for government/personal. (+ I can send emails from them because my account was created before the new restrictions)

How exactly would you organize them?
1 email for all government stuff
1 email for all personal stuff
1 email for all job applications
etc.?
However you want based on what makes sense to you. There’s no wrong way to do it.
But yes, different labels/folders for different things. That’s a decent way to compartmentalize.
I would only use a real name/first name email address when sending emails. If it is just receiving, no matter who I am giving it to, I am fine with an alias.
You can also send emails from your alias and set a name too per alias I believe.
