The privacy-focused AI chatbot duck.ai from the same company that provides DuckDuckGo has added the feature ‘New Image,’ which lets you generate images.
I have only noticed this addition without finding any more information about it being announced anywhere by DuckDuckGo themselves.
I’m also seeing it. GPT 5-mini is also “Beta” and has been on there for a while.
Just remember kids, Duck.ai is a privacy-focused front end only. While your calls are made via DDG servers to LLM models, but if you give LLMs identifiable data, that data goes and stays with the LLM.
While not confirmed, using directly text or images generated by ChatGPT through an “anonymizing” front end has the potential to expose your use for that session.
I think this is mainly due to many organisations having to block third-party AI usage due to regulations such as the AI act. And if duckduckgo puts this on a different domain at least search could can still be used and the AI feature can be blocked seperately.

We have agreements with model providers to further protect your privacy.
As noted above, we call model providers on your behalf so your personal information (for example, IP address) is not exposed to them. In addition, we have agreements in place with all model providers that further limit how they can use data from these anonymous requests, including not using Prompts and Outputs to develop or improve their models, as well as deleting all information received once it is no longer necessary to provide Outputs (at most within 30 days, with limited exceptions for safety and legal compliance).
So if for some reason you have to give non-local AI identifiable information it would be best to do it via a provider like duck.ai who at least has binding legal agreements with the providers to not store the data indefinitely and to not use it for training. Also if you do it by mistake it’s not as bad.
