As I’ve said in the past, the PrivacyGuides community means a great deal to me and my life.
I just noticed that a new donation system has been created.
I’m just barely surviving financially but I really want to support this community as best as I possibly can.
I’ve been trying donating for a couple hours now to the new donation system and I just can’t login. I’ve tried using multiple web browsers and no matter what I do it says my account doesn’t exist?
Sorry if I seem overly nervous but in the past I’ve submitted a donation and somehow it was sent to GitHub even though I wanted to donate to PrivacyGuides. I just don’t want to make the same mistake twice.
Dude, if this is the case, focus on yourself first. Donations are not mandatory but appreciated only when you can and do. Even @jonah will tell you that. Being an active member here and helping and participating is another way to contribute.
Also, once I can login to the new donation system, how does donating work? Are there special tiers or special titles that a user receives so that the community knows they’ve made a donation?
I’ve tried 5+ different browsers and it just won’t accept my login username or password and I’m 100% sure I’m using the exact same username and password I use here…
magicgrants.org is a separate website with its own account information. You would need to make a new account there if you want to make a recurring donation. Sorry for the confusion, I’ll look into whether we can make this whole account situation more clear.
You shouldn’t need an account there at all to make a one-time donation.
Regarding titles/badges, at this time there are no specific benefits to becoming a member, but this may change in the future.
Your account on the Privacy Guides forum is different than the (optional) account on the MAGIC Grants donation platform.
If you want to make an account for the MAGIC Grants donation platform, you’ll need to make new login details. You do not need to make this account to donate by credit/debit or by cryptocurrencies.
The first and last name fields are primarily there if you want to receive a tax deduction, so that we know who to address the donation receipt to.
I am working out the details on how to best handle a special membership tier and flair on this form. The core technology for linking works, but the committee proposed a few additional features that we will add before that goes live. Ultimately the approval for that will be their decision. That will work by optionally “linking” your MAGIC Grants donation account to the Privacy Guides forum account to qualify for the special flair. It’s best to wait on getting the membership until it supports these features; currently, a membership is the same as a standard donation.
