The solution is to use DoH/DoT

Just to add to this, pi-hole provides configuration steps on how to do this in their documentation.

EDIT: I did make a post about DoT and DoH a while ago. I found the users answers in the thread pretty helpful / informative, so I thought I would add it as a reference if @pgaccount decides to try and configure this.

Recursive dns or DoH / DoT?

Trying to decipher if one is better for privacy then the other. It also seems like people are pretty mixed as to whether DoH or DoT actually provide much of a benefit at all. I know you can technically run something like unbound with dnscrypt but doesnt that defeat the point of having a recursive dns?
