Does a vpn bypass age verification if signed into your you tube channel?

I planned on launching a youtube channel this week but then heard about us Aug 13th age verification. After hours of research, it’s down to Proton or Mullvad. This is my first ever VPN. There are a couple of questions I just couldnt find an answer to.

  1. If I have vpn on, will I compromise ip anonymity if I sign in to my youtube creator channel account?

  2. Will vpn prevent utube ai from scanning my signed in utube account watch history, searches & account longevity to determine if I am underage? I am wondering if I will have to delete all my playlists, likes, comments etc. of news channels that cover soon to be forbidden footage before the 13th

  3. Is there a preferred browser to use that would keep anonymity if I signed into my utube account? I use Brave & Edge now, windows 10.

  4. I have an 6 yr old hardware system on Windows 10, internet speed right now is 443.4 mbps dwnld & 571.5. I have learned that vpns can slow it down. – Does the vpn slow down the more devices u add to it?

    1. If I purchase a Proton vpn plan w a debit card, does that compromise anonymity? I dont think I will have time to learn how to safely & securely get & use crypto before the Aug 13

      1. Is Mullvard beginner friendly?

I am GenXer trying my best to get up to speed b4 the 13th- I may need the “explain to your grandma” response lol - this is all new. I started my search with “what is a vpn?”

TIA, any response is appreciated

No, vpns protect only your ip address not your anonymity.

If you want anonymity you should use Tor but then if you log in into your account that anonymity is gone.

Take a look at the knowledge base

It won’t magically let YouTube know what your real IP is, but it won’t make connecting from different IPs any more anonymous; if you’re signed in, they know that the activity is from you.

No. A VPN will only hide your home IP address from YouTube. They still have total access to all the data that you give them.

It depends. If whatever VPN server you connect to doesn’t have enough bandwidth to handle as much data as you want, it can bottleneck your down/up speeds.

That can make you less anonymous to Proton themselves, but there shouldn’t be any impact on the sites you visit with the VPN.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

Ok, I looked over the guide and if I am understanding correctly - a vpn wont stop ai from scanning or utube from knowing it’s me signing in to my creator account.

And if I want to have full access to see all utube videos anonymously vpn can prevent the age restriction so long as I dont sign in to utube because the vpn makes it seem like I’m not in the us, but another country without age requirements. Is this correct?

So therefore, if I want to start uploading to my channel & not get age restricted, I will need to search utube only for older folks topics & delete my other soon to be forbidden viewing history, likes, comments by the 13th if I dont want it scanned by ai. And just pray I dont get restricted lol ? Is this correct?

I think I will try both Proton for 9.99 & Mullvad for 5 & see how it goes for a month.

This is starting to feel heartbreaking - what is going to happen to me & all my favorite utube creators all over the world? Our livelihoods Utube was going to be my main focus but I will have to diversify on many platforms now.

Thank you for responding!

  1. How often have you signed into your creator account without a VPN on? How many times has that been from your home ip address? So they can see where you’ve previously signed in without a VPN. Depending on if you have used your android phone with an app or if you’ve used the website moving forward using the VPN with YouTube is only going to make you as “anonymous" to the point of what you have previously done before. Using the VPN in the future isn’t going to erase previously signing into the account.
  2. No. You have to disable those settings on the account.
  3. FireFox/Fennec (w/ublock origin), Brave browser. I haven’t used this next one but have heard Mullvad is decent.
  4. It slows down speeds a bit. It’s not something where all of a sudden you go “this is unusable!". I’ve never had that experience. I guess if it does happen there are different configurations you can use, some faster than others. Although I doubt that will happen.
  5. Well that card number is attached to you, so proton is going to be able to see some information regarding you and it will be on file with them for however long is required. Your already trusting them with all your browsing. What’s it matter if they have your bank card? Does it compromise your anonymity, I guess that’s up to your threat model. If your worried that proton might cough up your details or if their payment system will be hacked and someone will find your details. If proton is slapped with a subpoena even without banking information they will give up what information they have on you. It’s silly to assume otherwise in my opinion.
  6. Don’t know haven’t used them. But I do think that most companies are beginner friendly now a days. It’s to the point where it’s almost impossible to screw it up. Unless of course your trying to do some technical things that the average user isn’t doing and then it comes down to what the vpn company supports. I wild shot in the dark here, I’m going to say “yes they are beginner friendly, you download an app and sign in and are more than likely good to go". If you go with them let me know how wrong I am.

I was hoping vpns could totally prevent ai from scanning my utube content while signed in, but if I am understanding correctly, this is not possible. I dont understand what disabling the settings would do?

Honestly, I don’t believe anyone should make something like YouTube their main focus. It should always be a side hustle imo. Things happen. You could even get banned from YouTube without warning one day. It’s the same with any platform really. Just look at what happened to Trump and some of his supporters. That’s just my opinion though. I would focus on something else career wise and YouTube would be like a hobby.
