What is the privacy equivalent of a digital frame like Meural, but no membership required and fully private?
It’s basically a frame where you can put pictures but doesn’t look digital.
Does this even exist?

I think you can literally use any device like this as long as you don’t connect it to the internet and if you can load in the pictures manually via USB or something. That’s pretty much as private as a thing like this can get.
The fact that it’s made by Netgear reminded me of a GL-iNet router with the same feature:
But I understand you’re not necessarily looking for a router and probably for something with a larger display. A quick search on eBay and Amazon shows plenty of devices that you might like; just keep it offline and don’t buy something that requires an app to operate. With many of these devices, you should be able to load pictures with a USB stick.
If you can live with only B&W, then this might be a good product: https://trmnl.com/
Otherwise, DIY is probably the cheapest, safest and most flexible where then you could add some https://immichframe.dev/ on top of a cheap ESP32.
Thanks all for the suggestions! I’m looking for a specific size: 18x24’’ and yes in color. I’ll take a look online with keywords “digital frame.”
I’ll definitely take a look!
Any chance there’s a “ente-frame” alternative? I duckduck’ed it and couldn’t find anything.
I asked the same thing in this discussion, feel free to upvote + add your own voice to it. ![]()
Maybe it’s already doable somehow, I haven’t gotten to it but yeah, an LLM would definitely be more helpful than DuckDuck here because you probably need to code a wrapper/layer around it (it is probably not available out of the box). ![]()
