Should we do this? Threads would look like this. Edit: It’s also possible to default to these for certain categories. I’m thinking at the very least General > News and Off Topic could use these. Perhaps General as well.

What I gathered from @jonah 's comments here along with comments made during a recent “This Week in Privacy” Live stream is this it seems like this new layout is not going to be implemented forum wide yet, if at all, and feedback has been given to the discourse team as well.

I agree with this. I like the current one for discussion threads but the collapsible nested thing being tested is better for more information focused threads.

Having a thread (like this one) where you follow the discussion to see what others are thinking it’s such a bad UX that you see that there is a new post in the thread because it’s not greyed out on the main forum page but then you have to manually search for it or adjust the sorting every time.

There are too many problems to consider implementing it now. There absolutely should be a better way to see which posts are new.

Hard agree, it seems quite buggy right now (though I wouldn’t prefer it anyway)

Yeah, I’d have a harder time using the forum as I mainly stick to reading. It’d probably be better to stick to the normal one, as at least right now most other tech forums like GOS use the same format. I still think it would be best to have an option though cause I’m sure people coming from reddit …

I’m on Vanadium as well and the typing is definitely laggy.

Separate thought: If the community rejects this as a general implementation (as it seems may be the case), it could be reserved as a moderation tool. Migrating an off-the-rails post to this format may be a good way to cool down a heated discussion with a lighter touch

[image] anon65963525: Agree with and appreciate the ability to see what comment applies to which sub-thread. This nesting makes it easier to follow individual comments to the post. In my opinion this is already covered by the folding “replies” [replies] I do understand that this old layout…

As I see it - Pros: Separates discussions into their own chains. Super useful when there’s long disparate discussions, especially when they veer off the main topic. Easier to find info relevant to you, and filter out what you don’t care about Cons: Following a thread live and coming back for …

The new nerfed replies sucks how I’m supposed to follow this shitshow. When I’m on the front page and see a new reply, I have no idea how to find it.
