Much larger attack surface than what? I added Syncthing to the combination because I am going to use the local device level only as backup if my local network syncing strategy fails. When I mean local network I mean it will not touch the internet.

We are trying to. But your mind is not changing eitherā¦ you are dead set on your system. And we have given you reasons for why it may not be necessary.
I think we are here only to discuss and exchange ideas, not to change peopleās mind.
And regarding your āforget / avoid the cloudā mentality, Iād say you should understand the use and limitation of the tools and use it appropriately, instead of All or Nothing approach.
