Coreboot port for a AMD motherboard

Looks like 3mdeb are working on Coreboot port for a AMD motherboard.

I would need a high-end desktop for helping a friend on a project at the start of next year, and I might as well double it as a gaming PC.

I know security and firmware updates are a joke for consumer desktops, but what are the pros and cons of going for this board over a normal consumer AMD motherboard?

Get what you can get for the price you can get. Hardware security while important, is never really going to be great in any desktop motherboards like MSI consumer gear.

You’d be wanting a vPro or Ryzen Pro processor to make use of things like encrypted RAM etc and features of the higher HSI levels otherwise its all largely just theater.

Also in terms of AMD there’s a transition away from AGESA which is going to be adopted by every manufacturer on Zen 6 Empowering The Industry with Open System Firmware – AMD openSIL

Personally I’m waiting for Zen 7 as that will be after the new fabs open in 2027, 2028, and we’ll have DDR6 which is a lot faster.

Thanks. I think I’ll wait on Zen 6, and sadly the Ryzen Pro processor is just a little over my budget. :smiling_face_with_tear:

OpenSIL is interesting it’s nice to see AMD supporting open source. Maybe I’ll buy 3mdeb’s gen 2 AMD motherboard if it has official support by Coreboot.

How would you use vPRO or AMD Ryzen Pro with encrypted RAM?

Are there even any Intel vPro or Ryzen Pro desktop CPUs?

Yeah Ryzen PRO Desktop Workstation Processors
