Can't decide on domain registrar

Here’s a piece on VPS providers regarding free speech and privacy.

Njalla gave a very unprofessional reply, so I wouldn’t want them to own my domain. NiceVPS and Privex (“on request”) seem to be the recommended providers that also offer “anonymous domains”. They both accept XMR (Monero) for payments, and they don’t restrict the content of your website as long as it’s legal in the server’s location.

It’s a shame BuyVM still hasn’t got NameCrane up and running :frowning:

What about DynDNS? My limited understanding was that you purchase a Domain and it also runs dynamic dns to match your ISP’s changing IP address.

Hostinger experience I had is terrible but also dating back quite a few years. They basically fraudulently charged my creditcard after cancellation and this happend twice. This was raised with VISA and they acknowledged my both claims. It’s really a shit show. I will never ever do business with Hostinger again.

I’m using namecheap for my domain names currently. Paid with virtual credit card, no issues so far. They also offer free whois privacy. The dns dashboard is, ugly to look at but it does what it needs to.

If you choose namecheap, be careful with the “1st year” prices on some domains. They often offer very low discounts for 1st year only and full price later on.

I’m looking for a good domain registrar that would have .lt ccTLD.

I already checked Cloudflare, Porkbun, njal.la, Namecheap and a few others, but they don’t have .lt ccTLD.

Any good options that do have .lt ccTLD?

Some ccTLDs allow you to directly register domains with them instead of going through a registrar. In that case there is one less entity to trust. Of course there are none that allow fake info but it might still be an interesting option for some.

hosting.de is quite decent imo. Also inwx.net

1984 yeeted their services without any notice.

There would be no WHOIS privacy if I would go this route.

Is there even a way to change language to English on the site?

I was just about to post this. I would’ve used Njal.la but I’ve heard this from customers far too many times. I use Porkbun atm but I’ll have to research the other providers in this thread. Aside from whois protection, domain registration isn’t very private by nature…

Found https://offshore.cat/ thoughts? I know it is made by doxbin people.

Personally i just use namecheap. No idea if they are good for privacy though

Not necessarily for every ccTLD. Because with ccTLDs, how they do their whois or even whether they offer it at all is at their peril. But yeah, there are also some where that won’t be an option and everyone could look at that data. As they’re not bound by (any?/almost all?) ICANN rules, things can differ greatly. For example I used to own some .mt domains that I got on https://www.nic.org.mt and there it would show the name, email and a phone number, but not your address. Email and phone number it’s easy to use aliases, name not so much, and they don’t support DNSSEC on .mt so I moved (they’re quite cheap though, just initial registering is a small hassle because you need to do literally paperwork). Then there’s for example .is (https://www.isnic.is/) where the whois only shows your country publicly, nothing else. Or even .de domains can be registered directly, but in that case they’re a lot more expensive (DENICdirect – DENIC Services Gmbh & Co. KG). And .de does not really have a public whois at all by design. More examples: https://my.channelisles.net https://nic.gi https://www.la/ etc

Of course, no need to go this route, I’m not saying it is a superior way of doing it. Just wanted to point that out in general because it often gets overlooked.

Afaik only the promotional page is on German, the actual user interface for interacting with the backend is available in English https://secure.hosting.de From there you can do all orders etc.
