Can you prevent apps from collecting device ID? iOS ATT proven useless.

Want to be able to use ride share apps for example without sacrificing device ID. I can spoof phone number at signup with privacy service but the device ID can get enhanced ID-resolution done to connect my ID. Is there way to protect device ID from essential type apps like that?

The answer is in the article:

Apps pivoted to probabilistic tracking—reconstructing user identity through patterns of behavior rather than persistent identifiers.

The prompt still blocks access to the IDFA, the problem is that there’s several other ways to persistently identify a device. Your best bet unfortunately is to stick to web apps in this case, but it’s not like the prompt is “just asking nicely”, it does genuinely restrict access.

thanks i dont click on links and this helped :+1:

Web apps do seem like the best option.

To be fair, I considered the article’s point, and it doesn’t matter if they’re guessing fingerprint behavior if they have the ID first. That article is in reference to the IDFA, but even when you ask apps not to track and restrict the IDFA, apps (like uber for example) still grab system telemetry on top of other device ID, like a serial number for example. In my personal data records from Apple, there’s at least 3 device IDs.

I’ve been looking into virtual machines in connection with mobile device, and app cloning possibilities. Not sure yet.
