It would be really cool if Privacy Guides could get in touch with EFF to get an answer for the titular question as best as possible with the info available for us to understand the particulars and nuances for what, why, how, etc. of the legal issue and how the law would apply if this happens to someone else- atleast when entering the US.

This would also better help us understand how to and how to not enter a country if you’re an activist who may more likely than not already on a list somewhere.

Amateur discussion on this can only answer the question so much. Would be better if an authority in the area can address it more conclusively accounting for the nuances.

Thank you!

(Hope you see this comment before well before the podcast begins).

@jordan

Please share from an Australia POV about the whole social media ban that’s now in effect there. How are people and companies and platforms handling it and what they think and feel about it now that its the rule. Some insight here would be interesting to learn. Thanks!

I’m very curious if that activist was running GOS. I’m wondering if you’re an activist using GOS and set your duress PIN to something cops are likely to try ahead of time, if you get arrested and they trigger the duress would they try and blame you?

To avoid the GrapheneOS team clocking us on social media for allowing “misinformation”, I just want to make it clear before the stream that we can’t confirm whether it was running GrapheneOS.

It would make sense given that this guy is an American activist who supposedly attended a cop-sitting event that was protesting the “cop city” initiative. I mean, who else would bring a Pixel to a cop-sitting event instead of an iPhone? But all that are rumors, nothing more until we get more information.

I do want to point out that the man allegedly used some sort of “code” to do this before the search according to the indictment. We don’t know if this refers to a remote erasure, a manual factory reset, or a use of the duress pin. All we know is that there is camera evidence of this happening, so it’s probably the latter two.

We’ll discuss the legal implications of this on TWIP though!

Sane rational people if they cared enough about their privacy and security first. But what’s sad is that one even needs to ask such a question. Valid question though.

I’ll be working behind the scenes on the production of this weeks podcast but I’ll definitely jump in for this! :smiley:

I have 3 questions today :smiley:.

  1. What can the PG team actually see when it comes to the anonymous mode on the forum? For instance, is it possible to link to anonymous account to the parent account?
  2. Is there any way to keep control of passwords and secrets while still being able to give up control of them to a trust family member or friend when you die (e.g. You get hit by a bus tomorrow)?
  3. I have seen a bunch of discussions about backing up data, however, I never see people talk about testing them. How do you properly test a backup for a PC and/or homelab?

Thanks for the awesome show btw!

Hi. I was going to be on the show this week, but I have technical problems (well, power company problems) sadly. So I will answer this one here:
