Can anyone tell me about the Rethink DNS?

Is Rethink DNS is safe to use? Should I use it’s in app DNS feature? Actually I’m using the proton VPN free version and also a private DNS and when I am connecting with the VPN the DNS stopped working. So I searching for a solution for this thing and I find the rethink DNS app. At first, I was planning to use this app with the next DNS and proton VPN WireGuard configuration file. But now I am thinking of using this in-app built-in DNS feature with proton VPN WireGuard configuration file. Is it a good idea or a bad idea? I don’t really know about this stuff. I’m just recently switched to graphene OS and I’m new at these things. So I want to know from the expert or the experienced users and now at this moment I am not willing to pay for any VPN or DNS.

Absolutely.

If you need to or want to.

It is generally recommended to always use VPN’s own DNS. That’s the best practice. Given your line of questions here, I think you’re a beginner here and it would only behoove you to stick with the VPN itself for your obfuscation and encrypted DNS needs.

It’s hard to say. It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve with such a set up.

Congratulations! for taking the massive step to improve your OPSEC.

It is highly recommended and worth paying for it. Getting Mullvad cannot be more affordable. It’s 1 EUR per month per device. I implore you to consider buying one to make the best use of your newly improved OPSEC you’re trying to achieve with GOS.

Obligatory: paging @ignoramous (given the topic at hand).

I also recommend researching the forum on Rethink DNS. There’s so much info on it here already and I think your questions are already answered elsewhere.

If you are paying for ProtonVPN and don’t need the firewall function, you’re probably better off sticking to Proton’s App along with their default DNS service and VPN. This is almost certainly simpler to setup and will better protect your privacy from the websites and services you use.

Rethink DNS is a great product, but it is significantly more granular and I expect it to be popular among more advanced users that aren’t necessarily using a VPN.

I agree. I would absolutely pay for a VPN and recommend everyone to do so. Nothing is ever truly free. You get what you pay for.
