Best private Google alternatives: The ultimate list to deGoogle in 2025

This is a Tuta list of alternatives to certain Google applications or related.

There are some good and not so good recommendations. An example of not so good recommendation is the adoption of Android OS that requires root access. This isn’t normally a good idea because compromise security in your device.

Nevertheless, in general the list seems to sustain the overall consensus around the privacy community.

Replacing Google Chrome is easy with these privacy-focused alternatives:
DuckDuckGo
Privacy Browser

If you’re on stock, these would be using the Chrome WebView provider with extra telemetry.

Swap YouTube with these alternatives

Should probably have a note that NewPipe and some Invidious instances connect directly to Google still, so your habits can still be learned.

Here’s a list of some great apps to download from F-Droid:
Blacklist Blocker

Change your Android operating system
/e/OS

By switching to Lineage, you can keep using your older devices without sacrificing your security.

false.

/e/OS is another OS you can use to fully DeGoogle your Android.

Yeap, I noticed some of the same pitfalls that you highlited.

By not mentioning Proton, Tuta seem quite biased against them. Then again, why mention their direct rival in this blog…

As for other questionable choices, I’ll attribute that to the blog being focused on degoogling rather than genuine security and privacy advice.

Typos galore. They wrote a goddamn essay on the entire history of Google. Like Proton, their marketing is just sensationalist bashing of big tech.

Where is Proton Mail and Proton Pass?

Authy is noted in one of the picture descriptions but not in the actual paragraph and should also be removed.

I didn’t see that many:

  • s/Subreddit/subreddit/
  • s/Tiktok/TikTok/
  • there is some mixing of degoogling and de-googling.
  • s/FDroid/F-Droid/
  • s/Fennec/Fennec F-Droid/
  • s/Tor browser/Tor Browser/
  • s/Brave TTranslate/Brave Translate/
  • s/Libre is published open source/LibreTranslate is published open source/
  • s/GrayJay/Grayjay/
  • s/KeePass DX/KeePassDX/

Recommending DuckDuckGo browser but not the search engine kind of stood out as unusual to me.

GrapheneOS is one of the most well-known de-Googled operating systems, which is built primarily for Google Pixel devices. GrapheneOS does offer limited support for some other manufacturers, but there is no full degree of functionality on non-Pixel devices.

?

Almost certainly ‘AI’ generated. This exactly the kind of stuff ‘AI’ loves to hallucinate about.

Quality doesn’t seem to be a huge priority with these blog posts, but they’re certainly not alone in that.

I actually suspect it was a translation error from German.
This article appears to just be an updated version of an old one and the GrapheneOS website does/did mention support for things like dev boards such as HiKey.
