Personally I think Brave is really good. If you’re wanting a more privacy respecting AI, I think it’s quite decent also.

I like startpage. It has much better results than DuckDuckGo and similar. (though nothing beats Google)

Their “visit in anonymous mode” is very helpful for myself, crazy how many geolocked or elsewise blocked sites there are when on vpn, even with just sports news. The anonymous view is a true gem of a feature

True! It’s really great to evade restrictions. From what I know, there is no alternative on the internet.

If “locally-hosted” means using your own IP address, then there’s no privacy. Using a server with a different IP address is almost the same as using a search engine through a VPN. The point of SearXNG is to blend into the crowd, so the instance needs to have a large number of users.
Yeah Brave is the best for everyday use. If you can’t find something (like an exact quote someone posted), be flexible and try Startpage, DDG, then Google.
