I realized there was no thread on thuis whilst i think it would be good to discuss this on the forum here.
For those who are not aware, Amazon Web Services is setting up an independent legal structure in Germany to provide AWS Cloud services under local laws and (at least on paper) not being subject to intelligence requests and other requirements of the USA Government.
Curious about your thoughts on this one. I am personally very much wondering if the US will really not be able to pressure this somewhat more independent company.
Reminds me far too much of Tik Tok’s “Project Texas” and USDS.
All this is a desperate attempt at preserving European customers at best. Doomed to fail based on current trends of migration towards European-created products
It is not that big of a trend realistically. All governments and corporations use Microsoft or Google really. And most use AWS aswell. Also GAIA-X is infiltrated by them.
On the EU alternatives I see it less positively. AWS’ offering is kinda the best thing you can use of what is offered atm. Eventhough I agree with your opinion and comparison.
I am all with you that it should be different and we should have full independent opinions but there is quite a lot of steps to take to get there still.
