The iPhone maker was “actively looking at” reshaping Safari, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters, citing Apple (AAPL.O), opens new tab executive Eddy Cue who was offering testimony at an antitrust case on Wednesday over Google’s dominance in online search.
I’m so sic of AI at this point…
The announcement hit Google’s share price. Despite all the problems with AI, it could be the way to dethrone Google.
Its likely to be togglable but I still hate this precedent. Big Tech AI is a solution seeking for a problem
A bit of an aside: I’m seeing more and more of people in my circle, specifically non technical people, using AI as an assistant. I’ve heard of cases of bouncing ideas of them, asking it about life challenges they are having, thoughts and opinions on what to do. It’s a part of the work I do, the culture I see evolving, whether we like it or not.
The concern isn’t its usefulness - it definitely is - but rather how companies are going to be able to monetize it. Charge for better models is one way, but the “free” versions are just sending more data to their systems, and there is a bottom line investors will be expecting.
How will Apple monetize this? Could be more conversion to users buying iOS? Could be so they can build their own better models, then bait-switch to ecosystem lock in? Or worse?
