Android apps are blocking sideloading and forcing Google Play versions instead (Play Integrity API)

This is why app stores like F-Droid, though not perfect, are necessary for de-googled Android to thrive. Fuck Google.

This is malicious and unacceptable. Considering they made it even harder to gain root in case one would want to sidestep similar draconian decisions.

F-Droid, Accrescent, and the upcoming FUTO Store.

if some devs are reading this, you should look into this as well, as an alternative.

The thing is, most devs for proprietary apps and apps that don’t think about degoogled OSes care about implementing this. They have Play Integrity readily available, and hence choose to ignore the AOSP implementation. It’s better to get Play Integrity to (forcefully or not) support custom ROMs which at the very least support Verified Boot and are up to date on patches. Google clearly can’t lie about Play Integrity being about security when years old devices are perfectly supported.
