After Recent Kernel Drama, Rust for Linux Policy Put in Place

Due to the ongoing drama surrounding Rust and C developers in Linux, Rust for Linux Lead Miguel Ojeda has decided to publish an official Rust kernel policy

I’m not too familiar with what happened, but I do know that the Rust for Linux project has been progressing slower than expected.

Hopefully, this situation gets resolved given Rust’s memory-safe features.

It’s something that has happened in tech over and over, as well as with a changing world in general.

People have invested years in a particular skill, then a new skill comes along and threatens to make their experience and ability obsolete.

That causes a lot of resistance.

An interesting example is XML being replaced by JSON, leading to a lot of frustrated and bitter XML experts who couldn’t sell their skill anymore.

It’ll keep happening in different ways in different industries.
