I am active user of it. Seems to work fine
I hope devs will push it to official distro repos for easy install lika “apt install”
They have different use cases. Picocrypt (and Picocrypt NG) is intended for individual file encryption. Veracrypt, on the other hand, is extremely useful when encrypting a whole drive/partition or creating an encrypted container. It’s not impossible to encrypt individual files with Veracrypt, but it’s easier to do that with Picocrypt.
Also, Picocrypt uses stream cipher while Veracrypt uses block cipher as the default alogrithm.
it’s been quite some time since i made this suggestion and Picocrypt NG development still seems to be going strong. maybe it’s time to reconsider adding it as a recommendation? it now meets even the best-case criteria since it is available on mobile. (“File encryption apps should have first- or third-party support for mobile platforms.”)
also, SearXNG is already recommended so clearly theres no problem with actively maintained forks of this type.
It has been a lot of months now, anything stopping PG from recommending it?
no clue, i keep getting no replies
dw that‘s more than common here
I think this is worth bringing up just for clarity
NG is with a new lead dev. I personally think it’s best to wait to see how NG fares for a long period of time to analyze long term risk.
Original Picocrypt is still fully functional and valid as the core is store operating under it’s last audit which was strong.
