I think Ecosia is a great service and deserves to be at the Privacy Guides’ website. It has a pretty decent privacy policy that shows how the data is handled and also respects the “Do Not Track” header. They obfuscate the IP address before sending data to Yahoo, Bing and others and, if it is not required they won’t send your search query at all, e.g. weather. I also like the bussiness model that they use and their transparency. Also, Ecosia is a B Lab certified.

We previously considered Ecosia and I don’t think anything has changed since then:
Ecosia still directly contacts Bing when you make a search from what I’m seeing here. I also don’t think their Tor accessibility has improved.

I know that is thread is already answered, but I wanted to share more what I found about Ecosia that makes it not recommend.
No. They proxy the requests.
