Add ChromeOS overview

Well such speculation has been there since 2016 with Fuschia. I don’t think we should make decisions based on that.

Might be worth mentioning that some newer chromebooks with a Titan C security chip allow you to use a local password instead of the user Google account password.

On some Chromebooks, you can also use your PIN instead of your Google Account password to sign in.

These should be preferred because of ChromeOS questionable encryption.

How does that work in practice ? If Google deletes your account, you can’t access your PC no more ?

I guess so

I asked this question because it seems dangerous as a potential denial-of-access.

I tested it today, and it still sends the password in plaintext. Is this standard behavior ? Sure, the query is encrypted in transit, but this means Google server receives plaintext passwords..

I don’t know if it’s really worth mentioning how to improve the privacy of a non-private operating system that most people only use because an organization or educational institution provides it to them.

The usecase for ChromeOS seems limited and un-private enough that I would not really expect there to be a PG overview, but I also think ChromeOS could be an interesting addition to the Community Wiki

I just realized that GrapheneOS Desktop Mode displayed to a lapdock will soon have all of a Chromebook’s features and more, on top of it being more private and secure. I think this suggestion should be rejected in favor of GrapheneOS Desktop Mode.
