A question about Session messaging app

I know that Session has a default 14 day TTL for messages on their network/swarm. But, assuming disappearing messages are off (which is the default option) on device, will the app still delete all messages from local device after 14 days? Even if disappearing messages are off? I know they are deleted from swarm, but once received are the messages stored in device forever(unless erased manually)? Or are they also deleted after 14 days?

I read their FAQs but they don’t mention this explicitly. If anyone knows how this app works, it’s probably y’all.

No, received messages are not automatically deleted from your local device after 14 days. Messages you send or receive remain on your device, unless you perform any of these actions:

  • Manually delete them

  • Clear or delete your account

  • Clear your conversation

  • Enable disappearing messages (future messages)

The Session Node network TTL only applies to how long messages are stored within the Session Node network/swarm. It does not affect how long messages are stored locally on your device (unless disappearing messages are enabled).
