4chan and Kiwi Farms Sue the UK Over its Age Verification Law

4chan and Kiwi Farms sued the United Kingdom’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) over its age verification law in U.S. federal court Wednesday, fulfilling a promise it announced on August 23. In the lawsuit, 4chan and Kiwi Farms claim that threats and fines they have received from Ofcom “constitute foreign judgments that would restrict speech under U.S. law.”

Ofcom trying to go after 4chan in a similar strategy to how PirateBay was attacked years ago has backfired and become a really interesting story.

Hopefully it goes to Supreme Court and rule in favour of 4chan and Kiwi, this would honestly return the free internet we know…
That’s the only reason I want Kiwi and 4chan to win at this point.

@FilthyOwl35 I thought Kiwi Farms was hosted in NZ

My understanding is that Kiwi Farms operates under a U.S.-based company, 1776 Solutions LLC out of Sheridan, Wyoming.

I did some digging I don’t think they are hosted in New Zealand ::melting_face: in 2019, New Zealand police tried to get IP addresses, email addresses etc on some users here is response from side owner

Null (great name btw)

“If you’re wondering, no. Kiwi Farms has nothing to do with New Zealand. Our name is a pointed jab at some of the mushmouthed autistic people we make fun of. Absolutely nothing about our community is NZ oriented.

And I don’t give a single solitary f@*k what section 50 of your f#*** law say about sharing your email. F@*k you and f@k your sh#hole country.”

I guess KiwiFarms and 4chan is the perfect people to fight the UK lol.

Well, quite a lot of websites are suing the UK for this law. I wouldn’t say that these websites are particularly interesting targets for OfCom if not for their history.

I do not support Kiwi Farms and basically everything they stand for. I doagree that I wish that their lawyers are good enough to force a victory.

Thank you for censoring HAHA

Yeah, I did see it after reading it a second time.

In the sense that it takes a bad guy (toxic) to fight a bad guy (authoritarian)?
I feel like whoever wins, good people lose.
If UKgov win, we have a censored internet. If 4farms win, they get to gloat about how "they" saved the internet with their based and redpilledness or whatever the fuck.

This outcome is significantly worse

then this outcome.

I think we would need a time machine for that. There’s no bringing the free internet. Every site is flooded with trackers, ads and user-data harvesters. I disagree that throwing out the age verification out the window would suddenly make the internet ‘free’.

I disagree. If it is only 4chan and kiwi that is suing the UK and other bigger site’s isn’t fighting it. I’ll be disappointed and will happily them that win for selfish reasons.

I’ll be honest I barely know what Kiwi Farms is but I would rather give them temporary Reddit gold then have a permanent surveillance state/censored internet.

What’s the issue with this? How does this consequence affect me in any way similar to the consequence of internet censorship? I don’t care about what they gloat about, but should I?
