I’ll transition two devices from Windows 10 to Linux, but I haven’t decided which distro yet. The recommendation list on privacy guides is quite short, and I’m wondering why. Was it to keep it concise, or are they just the best. I’ve been testing ZorinOS on my main PC,I find it good enough, is it go…

[image] anon58977557: The recommendation list on privacy guides is quite short, and I’m wondering why As a generalization, one reason is because unlike many review sites or ranking lists, PG recommendations are not meant to be exhaustive, they are meant to be a selection of (somewhat) vetted,…

[image] TheDoc: Most popular distros (Like Linux Mint, Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, Zorin OS, etc.) will have more privacy or security issues compared to Fedora Workstation. Most of the information on why is included on the Linux Overview and Desktop/PC pages. Security issues that is a perhaps but privac…

Guys - why? Why only Desktop Linx? Server Linux? Offline - local repository .iso Red Hat clones. Rocky Linux 7 GB Download switzerland 1: Index of /rockylinux/10.0/isos/x86_64/ AlmaLinux 6.8 GB Download switzerland 2: Index of /almalinux/10.0/isos/…

[image] rundfunk: Rocky Linux AlmaLinux I do not recommend daily driving RHEL variants for desktop systems for personal use: limited software availability back in the CentOS 7 days this was actually fairly decent with EPEL and RPMFusion but most motivation seems lost after 8 onwards and t…

[image] anon63378630: Just use Fedora please. You should understand what a local repository is. You “download” all packages from your .iso file. Fedora needs Linux mirrors aka external sources. I recommend both: Fedora .iso and AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux .iso In the world of Linux there are no…

[image] rundfunk: You should understand what a local repository is. Fedora needs Linux mirrors. What do package mirrors have to do with the values of what a distro offers over others??? And you very much can run a local Fedora mirror.

[image] anon63378630: What do package mirrors have to do … One “mirror” is local on your computer. You don’t need internet at all. Fedora Workstation / Everything needs internet. Both is cool. The Linux world is not a war zone as you want it to be - everything is possible.

These are more Ubuntu issues, Not zorin. Zorin doesn’t need you to login or anything like that to use it. And as dngray said: Regarding point 3, a lot of that was in the past and I would dare say Mint hates snap and they do remove it and that’s why it’s also within my suggestions when it comes…

[image] anon63378630: outdated packages providing backports of security issues instead of whole updates is bad Fedora also relies on backporting, except for a few packages like the kernel, doesn’t it?

[image] anon39279085: These are more Ubuntu issues, Not zorin. All of the distros I mentioned have security issues (to varying degrees) which are non-existent or not as bad on Fedora. At least 2/4 of the distros have privacy issues including both Ubuntu and yes, Zorin OS : The Software store…
