A browser extension, or “intercept & rewite” port traffic tool, or ANY way to obfuscate browser fingerprint hashes on every page load. I’d pay money for it.
Not going to happen. Every New Orleans and pedophile incident chips away at your rights. Get out there and help the psychology of humanity.
I am much more interested better transparency of who abuses their right to access data…since I have dealt with this to a high cost.
Freaking same!
Other than that, I would love to see a more privacy friendly fiat payment system/Wise-like system, Captcha (Like proton’s), Encrypted cloud storage that can be used as a NAS Off-site and that is audited beyond just whitepaper and open source clients, a privacy friendly music streaming like Spotify (I know spotube exists but that is a frontend to both Spotify and YouTube not an alternative), wallet too (like Google Wallet but I guess more FOSS or otherwise privacy friendly) and finally something like gadgetbridge but you don’t have to be forced to use F-Droid to install it and have a way where you can retrieve firmware updates from the manufacturer (maybe like it sends a request to the manufacturer servers to grab the firmware, then download and flash onto) and also supports things like say Xiaomi Vaccum Robots for example.
Games Cloud Saving
There’s no alternative to PGS and it’s really frustrating.
Android
Android should detach itself from Google by offering Android accounts as an alternative to Google accounts (without fully replacing them). This would be an opt-in feature— for example, backups will be encrypted and stored under the Android account. If users choose not to use an account, backups would be stored locally.
This would also make it easer to create alternative cloud saving services for games, as they won’t be tied to Google.
YouTube
YouTube should offer users the option to create an account without requiring a Google account.
a list of software I couldn't bother to explain 😭
- Google Maps
- Spotify
- Live score apps (football, basketball etc.)
- GitHub
- Food & Grocery delivery apps
- Shopping apps
Libre Silicon and lowRISC deserve a lot more attention. To my knowledge they’re the only organizations/projects involved in real open hardware.
I have too many to list so I’ll only share a few!
- Privacy.com (or an alternative) in other countries.
- User friendly & open source “VOIP” number services + support for E2EE using RCS.
- A reasonably secure and usable FOSS operating system… one can dream.
- Not software but we really need open hardware!
- Off-topic but I wish paid services were cheaper. Individually some services are affordable but if you want privacy and convenience overall, it gets really expensive really quick.
These are compelling! I feel like this would make for a good blog post on PG to talk about open hardware.
I wish accessibility features in privacy respecting software were better. Facetime and zoom can do live captioning for example. I think Nextcloud talk is also capable of this if your server is powerful, but I wish signal had something similar. It’s also difficult to set linux audio to mono for people who are deaf in one ear. I’m sure there are many more examples.
Also better support for public transit in maps apps with real time tracking and info about delays etc. would be amazing.
not what they were reffering to.
Exciting and good news dont get me wrong, just clarifying.
Something like this DIY algorithm but with more options than just mastodon would be pretty cool. GitHub - aittalam/byota: Build Your Own Timeline Algorithm
The only thing I ever liked the for you pages for was the “catching up” on stuff I missed while out or sleeping and not on my phone / pc constantly.
Some sort of discovery algo or crawler thing would be cool too. I always want to find smaller writers or bloggers or feeds but it’s pretty difficult.
My favorite gadget is my Kindle Paperwhite. It has a decade’s worth of book purchases. Of course every click, swipe, purchase, or book sample is known by Amazon.
