You mean that’s it’s not only a string on a website (for the hash) it’s more complex then that ?
My question is, can I get the source code, change something (rename the app from signal to alert) compile it, calculate the hash and then put this hash on the html source code and put my compiled app into the file server and change the download url to point to my edited app.
Signal should be easy for your family to use, secure, and support stickers like Telegram does. I mentioned this because you mentioned liking Telegram’s stickers.
Here are some public Signal sticker directories:
You can also create your own custom sticker pack, just like you can on Telegram.
I have an other question about signal.
I can’t easily find financial report, since signal don’t sells our data they only have donations as financement does those are enough for paying devs and servers ?
And an other question, where is the best place to suggest features, to the signal team ?
Signal is a private non-profit so they’re not obligated to disclose their financial.
To my understanding signal is estimated to cost around 40 Million dollars now, and we don’t know if they’re getting enough from donation, to my understanding again they’re relying on loans meaning they’re using the donations to pay the loan.
Of course they would appreciate donations because the more the merrier, but i doubt they’re breaking even with just donations but I would love to be proven wrong.
I am worried that they stop their service or they start selling our data to finance the servers cost.
I don’t want to make my family and friends changing to the app if it’s to tell them in a few months, sorry let’s switch again this one is about to be shutting down.
All the more reason to start and encourage donations.
Again we don’t have concrete revenue numnbers or something with Signal to know but so far and assuming it’s true they go based on loan basis or something like that. Signal should be fine, tbh everyone trusts their long term viability including me but of course let’s not get too naive but you get the idea.
now of course on signal you can donate on behalf and the person you’re donating on behalf gets a badge.
The open source nature also should allow so that even in the event of it being killed, some of the communities or devs might or likely pick it back up from it’s grave considering the history with SimpleMobileTools and then to Fossify
