I remember reading about it on reddit, sadly can’t find it now with quick search.
I believe it was connected to Valves Anti Cheat (VAC) and did signature checks for cheat software.
Probably only when playing a VAC secured game as well
I agree with most of that statement, but disagree on the flashlight. I do a lot of things that requires using a flashlight and the one on a phone is probably the worst option have imo. I carry a couple of headlamps with me because I don’t have to hold them, the light is brighter, and wherever I look, the light follows. I just think phones make terrible flashlights.
Not sure if this counts or not but walking places. With plate readers all over the place, walking where you’re going when you can gives you some exercise, helps the environment, and protects your privacy.
Same for me
Seems more of an inconvenience than a hack.
My parents bought me an internet device, but I wish they hadn’t in hindsight. My digital footprint is significantly larger because I wasn’t privacy-conscious at all as a kid.
Just info for anyone reading this…the auto plate readers (at least the flock ones) are now recognizing stuff that is not vehicles…including people walking and on bikes (as well as drivers and passengers in cars). They would probably easily be able to analyze walking stride even if you have a hat / glasses / mask on. Best to find transit routes that avoid passing them at all.
I refuse to give my email or phone number when I’m out running errands. I just say I don’t have one. It disrupts people’s flows and raises eyebrows, but usually pushing back a little is all it takes to get them off your back.
Don’t tell me you can’t print out a receipt or that you need my phone number for me to collect my laundry. I’ve never seen anyone else do this. People just hand over whatever they’re asked for.
You might incur a small social penalty, but it’s a small price to pay
