Is having a VPN automatically start on the PC (linux) just as private as using a Router with a VPN (such as a Gl-Inet router)?
I’m trying to figure out using that Gl-Inet router provides any additional protections?
So far it sounds like that a router (such as a Gl-Inet) running the VPN could potentially prevent ill-behaved applications from access vs a PC running a VPN (not the router).
Well, using it on the router absolutely 100% guarantees all apps and OS connections happen through the encrypted tunnel. If there is a flaw in the OS that allows for some system traffic to flow outside of the tunnel, using it on the router eliminates this issue because VPN is not installed on the OS and hence bypasses such a flaw if it exists.
But besides that, I don’t see a major additional protection.
Also, since this us a question, you should change your post tag/label to Questions.
honestly this is just preference. i use a different server on all my devices for some personal reasons (nothing related to privacy concerns) so I never use router. however, router is nice if you want to have a vpn on all devices & have a max connection amount < device count
