VPN + AdblockingDNS

Hello

Can I use for example ProtonVPN but add in Firefox settings DNS server with ad block?

As I know, it is not system level DNS, so it should be routed through VPN too. Correct me if I am wrong.

VPN - standalone ProtonVPN Linux app, not extention.

It best to use an adblocker like uBlock Origin and a VPN with its own DNS. I do not suggest if you’re a beginner mess with custom DNS.

ProtonVPN offers its own add blocking DNS options which will be both more private than a third party DNS provider and probably a lot easier to implement.

I know, but it is paid :frowning:
I am on free account…

Thanks! Went with Ubo and plain Proton VPN on my laptop (Pop Os)n

I think about adding ad-block DNS to my android phone too (in phone settings) to block ads in apps. Is it OK?

Because after adding dns.adguard.com in settings->connections->more->private DNS ads in Viber disappeared

Its not a fool proof solution and may not always work. YOu can try and see if it works for you based on the apps you have. Just perform DNS leak test to make sure all is okay.

You should choose either a separate DNS or a VPN (which automatically enables DNS). Combining these two services will not improve privacy. It’s best to install adware on a separate phone.
