TOR, how do I privately use it?

Okay, so I’m planning on re-downloading TOR, and I’m just wondering, how should I really go about it?

Because on one hand I got people telling me to just use TOR and nothing else as using a VPN is going to ruin the whole point of it.

On the other hand I got people telling me to use TOR+VPN.

What should I do? Because I want to use it in a safe manner, any suggestions?

It literally says it right there in official Tor Project Documentation that you should NOT use Tor with a VPN.

It then continues: “..unless you’re an advanced user..” and provides a link to the wiki page where You → VPN → Tor[1] is acceptable.

It doesn’t mention the order so it’s likely they’re trying to prevent you–> Tor – >VPN paid with credit card.

If OP is asking about how to use Tor then they are likely not an advanced user.

And there are several replies saying You → VPN → Tor is the “private” way to use Tor. Congrats, he’s now an advanced user

Not until they understand Tor from the docs instead of sensational news and stop writing Tor as TOR

I feel like this whole VPN with or without TOR argument is dumb. You just need to understand what both offer and make your decision based on understanding the difference.

TOR without VPN - Your ISP can see that you are connecting to TOR.

TOR with VPN - Your ISP CANNOT see that you are connecting to TOR.

That’s really the main benefit. TOR already provides enough anonymity and IP obfuscation from a technical standpoint. You don’t need to add a VPN on top of it. If you wanna hide it from your ISP for some reason, then it’s an option. So just understand what’s actually happening and ask what’s the best fit for you.
