I can’t seem to find any simple userfriendly tools to encrypt files using quantum proof algorithms like SPHINCS+. Tools like 7zip and Picocrypt to my understanding only offer a strong protection to classical computers, and only a potentially good protection to quantum attacks, but not with high confidence. Am i missing something?
From Picocypt’s FAQ on their new repository:
Is Picocrypt quantum-secure?
Yes, Picocrypt is secure against quantum computers. All of the cryptography used in Picocrypt works off of a private key, and private-key cryptography is considered to be resistant against all current and future developments, including quantum computers.
Yes, Picocrypt is great, use it.
BTW It’s more likely that your files will be hacked using backdoors or a $5 wrench rather than through breaking encryption algorithms. No need to use a quantum computer if you OS can be compromised or extract the keys right out of you.
7zip encryption is “nice to have” but I would not rely on it at all for anything serious. Always use the proper tool for the job - 7zip is an excellent archiver not a secure encryption app.
