I think the order is in reverse

Yeah I know. Sorry. That’s how I discovered them.

I’ve never understood this rhetoric calling for the death of Mozilla. The blog poster here makes some decent points - although personally I’ve never really felt like Mozilla is as bad as everyone makes them out to be, just a bit directionless at worst, but certainly not malicious. I also don’t necessarily have that much of an issue with them pursing AI tech; it seems better to adopt a technology and implement it responsibly rather than to outright reject it and fall behind everyone else, as long as said technology is also opt-in, which is the case here for all of the AI stuff being built into Firefox.

No matter how many bubbles burst and what people say or feel, AI is obviously here to stay and will only become more pervasive with every passing month. I would rather there be at least one organisation trying to do it openly and with some oversight rather than this wholesale AI takeover from all of the multi-trillion dollar corporations that are breaking our economies and altering our planet’s thermostat, which I feel like maybe people should be diverting more of their energy toward addressing. What the hell are we gonna do when they start baking more and more AI into the foundation of Blink and Chromium until companies like Brave simply can’t strip it all out, and Mozilla’s own community has put enough negative inertia into motion that Mozilla does actually come to an end and Firefox along with it? Developers are using AI for developing Linux, why aren’t we calling for the death of the Linux Foundation?

Most of all though is this thing about calling for Mozilla to die and every time I see it I can’t help but think of all of the families that rely on the organisation to earn a living - are the people that work for Mozilla meant to just lose their livelihoods because of people’s ideological views about AI, whether justified or not? Strange times.
