Tails OS alternative for amnesia?

I’m looking for a Linux distribution that automatically resets its state upon reboot, allowing me to start with a clean slate. Additionally, I need an OS that doesn’t rely on the Tor network, as I want to browse websites (streaming) that are blocking Tor access.

Currently, Tails is one solution, but I’d like to explore alternative options. The Unsafe Browser in Tails has limitations, such as not allowing DNS changes in the Browser, which makes it less viable for certain use cases. I’ve considered using Linux Mint or Puppy Linux to create a custom LiveCD, using tools like chroot or Cubic.

Specifically, I’m looking for an OS or workflow that can provide:

  • Amnesic mode
  • No reliance on the Tor network
  • Customizable DNS settings
  • Access to websites blocked by Tor

If you have any suggestions or recommendations, I’d appreciate your input.

If you’re looking for a “Tails OS” without Tor, you won’t get the same anti-forensics features from other distributions.

Closest thing I can imagine is a Kicksecure USB running on live mode.

You can just modify most linux distros to run from RAM.

Debian/Kicksecure:

If you want to load an OS into RAM and then boot it (you can remove the USB/SD drive)

Arch:

Debian (and debian-based)

Qubes:

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help in finding this solution. I know it may not offer all the advanced anti-forensic features of Tails, but using an OS from RAM should still provide enough functionality for my needs. Thank you again!

You can also mimic Tails’ behavior of wiping RAM on shutdown with ram-wipe.
