I only use a browser to access Amazon (it’s still spying on me, I know, but it’s better than using the app). I’ve been using the DuckDuckGo app for a week or two to access Amazon and had no problems. Then all of the sudden when I opened an Amazon tab today where I was logged in I got this message. Why do you think this is happening? Do you think Amazon is trying to scare people away from logging in on browsers or browsers that block trackers, or is there anything to be concerned about here?
I have never seen anything like that with Chrome/Brave/FF/Safari and different ad blockers.
I would log out and try logging in from a different device/browser and experiment a bit with what triggers this.
This is a weird warning and I would heed it. Try this again with FF/Mullvad Browser/Brave?
Did you check the checksum signatures of DDG App? Have you perhaps installed a malvertised app pretending to be DDG?
I access it from my iPhone so I downloaded it from the iOS App Store. I signed into Amazon on the Firefox iOS app and it seems to be fine so far. I’ll stick with Firefox but it’s concerning that the DuckDuckGo app could possibly be doing something malicious.
Are you sure it’s even related to the browser ? Also, this could just be the fact that Amazon doesn’t know the DDG browser (although it must use Webkit).
I agree, it’s probably a more uncommon browser for people to access Amazon from iOS on, but Brave worked fine with Amazon for me. The only way I used DuckDuckGo differently than Firefox or Brave is that I “fireproofed” the Amazon site (a feature built into the browser that makes sure 1st party cookies aren’t deleted for that specific site when you clear all cookies). Could Amazon possibly be mistaking that feature as malicious?
Is your phone and DDG app updated?
Yes, I have automatic updates enabled too.
