Recommendations before buying a used cell phone

I am interested in buying a Google Pixel 8. The easiest way is through Amazon US (I live in Central America). But I found a local store a few hours from here that sells Pixel Phones in “Like New” condition and with 4 months warranty at a good price ($499 256gb). Is it too risky to buy phones that are not brand new? One advantage is the warranty because if I buy it on Amazon it is very difficult for me to return it, and obviously the price difference.

Sorry if this is not the place for this type of questions.

Really depends on your threat model.

If you are just a “normal person” that enjoys their privacy you are probably fine if there isn’t anything suspicious about that local store.

You could also download and manually flash the latest Android version on that device just to make sure it hasn’t been tampered with.
It’s highly unlikely that the hardware has been manipulated.

Make sure that the bootloader can be unlocked.
