I own couple of Apple TVs but they are expensive, I was wondering if there are alternatives that aren’t Firestick or Roku boxes that harvest data. I’d like to be able to install all the modern streaming services as well as Plex, with Jellyfin being a nice bonus. Any recommendations?
have you considered just an old computer as an HTPC? Lots of cheap retired intel machines you can get off ebay. Install whatever compatable OS you want.
If you own couple of ATVs, what is the extra cost? If you are concerned about data harvesting, you can install a 3rd party DNS provider like Control D or NextDNS. I still have my good old ATV 4K from years ago and didn’t have a single issue.
Mostly price, apple tv’s are expensive for what I am willing to pay for right now. I could get one used but my last used one died after like 2 years. If I can’t find something I might just do that
What about a raspberry pi, equivalent or better computer with Kodi?
You can buy second hand ones for like 120-140 Euro (4K 2022 model)
LibreELEC on raspberry pi works really well with Plex/Jellyfin.
I haven’t tried Netflix integration yet. The user experience might not be as seamless compared to your Apple TV though.
