Question about changes in about:config of Firefox

hello!

I wanted to ask a question for those who know more than me.

I would like to use Firefox and not Librewolf because I would rather not have to trust additional developers and because I prefer Mozilla’s immediate updates.

For this reason I followed the guide on PrivacyGuides and I am doing well. I don’t really want to use Arkenfox because it seems a bit complex and because I don’t really want to keep up with it honestly.

For extra protection I thought I would add on “True” these four options in about:config:

privacy.resistFingerprinting
privacy.resistFingerprinting.pbmode
privacy.resistFingerprinting.letterboxing
webgl.disabled

I know what they do, I know the possible problems in day-to-day use, and I also know how then I can temporarily disable them in case I need them.

My question is: Is it worth it or would this way I would simply be “more unique” and might as well stay without letterboxing or PRF? Or is it still a viable and better choice than a “standard” Firefox?

Use Arkenfox. It is not hard to keep up with.
It makes your life a lot easier when hardening Firefox. Everything you need is in one place: Home · arkenfox/user.js Wiki · GitHub

Check the wiki. 3.3 Overrides [To RFP or Not] · arkenfox/user.js Wiki · GitHub

If you want to actually resist fingerprinting you need to blend in with the crowd. This can only be done with a somewhat default config everyone is using.

Thanks, I will try to see. The problem for me is not so much “installing it” as the fact that the standard version seems to be too restrictive for me and I don’t really want to look at what to remove or put in.

I was also looking favorably at Betterfox adding then independently RFP. letterboxing and WebGL blocking. Seeing the changes it makes I liked the elimination of a lot of telemetry while leaving more freedom on the rest.

Thank you, that seems to me to answer my question perfectly.

It only stay true if the default config generates same fingerprint for everyone.

Just like touching things with your hands, with bare hands (the default) wont protect you at all. Wearing work gloves alter your fingerprint but still could be spefific, surgical gloves leaves no fingerprint.

Its overly simplified but hope you get what i mean.
