Proton: Is Signal safe?

Sensationalism.

is there a TL;DR summary for all the above ? Lots of technical garb, I would just like summarized for the benefit of newcomers, as I believe the subject matter is important to understand … yes ?

Use Signal as much as possible for private communications, but don’t expect anonymity and don’t expect it to be impossible for signal to see who you’re talking to (it’s not collected and/or stored by default)

wrong signal just utilizes E2EE for that metadata including but not limited to Profiles, group names, messages, timestamps etc.

but just basically keep in mind that signal only ever retains Timestamps and the Phone Number and thats about it

Also, Proton uses Google for their mail push notifications.

Yes that is true, but it still needs to operate on IP and by default (as in no VPN or other means to hide IP) it should be theoretically possible for Signal to correlate this info to get some insight into your communication patterns.

I feel like you and I guess Proton should have emphasized the word protocol, so people don’t get confused. But yes. Excellent point.

I did not know about the WhatsApp lawsuit. Can’t wait to read about it.

Unless its traffic analysis I doubt signal could do that.

and yes I have thought about it but I can only come to the possibility of traffic analysis otherwise no
