I am hoping to get some help with what the privacy implications of Alexa+ as compared to Alexa. This would be in the context of a user whose threat model is already ok with using an Alexa.
I understand with the generative AI included in Alexa+ there is probably more data its collecting but I have also read it provides more granular control over that data.
You’re not being specific here. What about the privacy implications? There’s nothing good about it from a privacy POV. It takes any and all data for all kinds of reasons whether you are actively using it or not.
Again I ask, what specifically about the implications you’re implying do you want to know more about?
Its a very specific ask. Let me rephrase. What differences between the privacy policy of using Alexa or opting into Alexa+ should I be aware of?
Even if I just wanted to know about the privacy issues of Alexa in general, I wouldn’t consider your answer at all helpful. You provide no specifics.
The best way to learn this is to read the privacy policy of both in full. No one here is going to know or remember the specific differences in the privacy policies and TOC of the two with any significant detail.
Why respond 4 times if you have no real answer to provide? It does not seem like you actually read my initial post and your assumption that I did not read the policy and try to understand it first is wrong.
My responses to your comments are indeed answers. Not my fault if you don’t like it.
No. You’re wrong. I did read your post and ask follow up questions for clarity which you did not provide in the first place. But let the community decide. You appear to be new here. Your inaccurate inference from my comments is not on me.
This got silly fast. It sounds like OP just wants to some help understanding if there are any major policy changes between using Alexa and opting into Alexa+, from what I can tell @JG you don’t provide that.
I think what also might be frustrating is OP states
Which makes statements like
probably feel unhelpful and could give off the impression you did not read or understand the post.
Thats my two cents
@anonymous347 I would probably just avoid Alexa+ as you stated
which is almost assuredly true. I would wait to trust whatever privacy controls Amazon implements for more trustworthy third parties to evaluate.
It is not unreasonable for one to feel and assume, from a privacy POV, that if one is okay with Alexa, one may as well be okay with Alexa+ because Alexa itself is terrible for privacy. And Alexa+ does not make it any better at all.
And that was the understanding with which I commented and how I answered. Also, when someone says privacy “implications” - it is also not unreasonable to ask what about the implications - to learn more what exactly and how OP meant it. There’s plenty of info already available on this forum and elsewhere about Alexa and how it is bad for you from a privacy POV.
Lastly, please explain how it is not oxymoronic to ask about this in a privacy forum when it should be clear that Alexa and tools like it are absolutely not recommended to use if one values their privacy. In this case, OP says they may be okay with it implying they don’t quite as much value their privacy in the first place which again goes back to my first point of assuming or thinking - what’s there to think about from a privacy POV between Alexa and Alexa+ when you are okay with using one?
I also explicitly said the best way to learn about any of the specifics is to read the privacy policies of the two because no one here is going to know this with specificity by heart. OP’s OG question itself is too generic to answer it in any holistic manner. How can OP expect specificity with people’s responses when they have not been clear and specific about what implications they want to learn about?

Ergo - I fail to see how I was “wrong” in my responses.
I would point out that privacy isn’t black and white, even Amazon can make their policy worse.
Sure and I think if you had linked to those that would of been helpful. As you pointed out OP seems like a new user and may not be fully aware of those posts or how to search for them.
The site and the forum is meant to help people of varying privacy threat models. There are lots of times where people need to make informed decisions about options that are not privacy friendly. This forum is here to help those people from what i understand. I don’t find it to be oxymoronic at all.
I am not saying you are wrong. I do think there is an opportunity for both you and OP to evaluate your communication styles as I think the discussion devolved into something not helpful for anyone who might find this post and now I fear the post is now completely off topic.
