Prevent smartphone data from being viewed in case of theft

I’d like to prevent smartphone data from being viewed in cases of loss, theft etc. When such an incident has happened, the screen should immediately lock.

It is assumed that the smartphone is constantly paired with a bluetooth device. This could be a tracker worn on the body. On the phone, there will be an app that locks the screen once the signal strength of the paired device has decreased below a certain threshold. This fact is supposed to indicate that you’re walking away from a lost phone or a thief is walking away with your phone. Can you recommend an app that can do this? Or is there even a better solution to the problem?

All your data on up-to-date Android/Apple devices is encrypted and can’t be accessed on a locked device, certainly not from a mere thief.

→ lock your phone with a 10+ digits password, set screen lock to 1 min or less, always turn off the screen when you put down your phone and you should be fine.

It is inconvenient to have to type a complex password every couple of minutes when you want to use your phone again. Even then, there is still a small chance your phone may be robbed while the screen is unlocked.

Android provides some functionality that keeps the phone unlocked under certain circumstances, e.g. at a certain location. I was wondering if you could do the reverse: have the phone lock the screen under certain conditions as explained above.

It’s impossible to give you a good recommendation without knowing what device and operating system you’re using.

Sorry. Samsung Galaxy A series devices / Android.

That’s what biometrics are for … surely your Galaxy A has a fingerprint sensor?

If you want to have more privacy/security you will have to deal with some inconveniences, that’s just the way it is.

Ok, then we’re left with the small risk of loss/theft during the small time frame of unlocked screen.
I made a suggestion. Yes, it’s not perfectly convenient, but an alternative. Do you think it makes sense?

Not really. Since the tracker on your body would have to send non-stop you would have to reacharge it often, possibly every day.
This would also impact your phone’s battery life.
I’m not aware of any product that would offer what you are asking for but for me it would be too inconvenient to use.

All the applications that have important data on my phone also have an app lock which requires biometrics or an app-specific PIN to open them. So a phone theif can’t just transfer a bunch of money to themselves or something even if they get my phone unlocked or steal my PIN.
