It is not privacy related but do you think that this is a good and secure application ? By cleaning undesired files, can it also be a plus for privacy ? By not letting old files with informations staying forever on the computer
I didn’t know about it until I saw this post. I just checked it out and it doesn’t seem to be open-source (like most apps developed for macOS), and from the screenshots, users can potentially expose a lot of sensitive data to this app if they switch most of the options in the app on. And due to its closed-source nature, I’m not sure if it’d be advisable to use this app.
Yes but it’s privacy policy is crystal clear, it had been here since a very very long time, uBlock and Brave block 0 thing in their website. It relies on donations and has public facing leadership
“[All applications on this website] do not contain adware, spyware, or other malware; and no registration is necessary.” “You may download, copy, and distribute them at no charge; however, you may not modify the software for distribution.“
Like I said, I didn’t know of this software and the company behind it until I saw your post. Closed-source isn’t inherently insecure and a deal-breaker for a lot of people, provided that the developer/company behind a closed-source app has established the required trust over the years (like little-snitch). If this company has been around for a long time and they did indeed establish a trust similar to that of little snitch, I’m not entirely against it. I was just raising some concerns with limited knowledge I have about the company.
I’ve been using Onyx for many years, even before I started my privacy journey. I trust the developers of Onyx and have donated to them a few times. You’ve done the research, so you can decide for yourself if you trust them or you could first also check for some alternatives that might be even open-source for example.
