Thought it is good to share this.
Like Signal, WhatsApp seems to have the option now to save contacts without saving them into your phone. So you can just save them in your WhatsApp seperatly without having to give access to all your phone contacts.

Brilliant news. Finally I don’t have to look at numbers in my chats and manually figure out who is who.
I just realized that this kinda also makes it might be not neccesary for me to have phone contacts at all. I basically never call over normal line.
If both signal and whatsapp have their own contact store that i use for calling. I guess one can finally just move contacts to proton?
You can also move contacts to Posteo via CardDAV that are also encrypted if you enable it.
Or Tuta contacts works well too.
There’s no contacts integration with Proton as far as I can tell/experience.
How / where is it possible to do this? I’m using WhatsApp (version 2.26.19.73) with GrapheneOS but can’t find it.![]()
Go into Contact info on any of your contacts, there’s an option to save name and an option to Sync with device.
It may look different for GOS, this is on iOS. But there has to be there or perhaps it’s being rolled out.
