Hello,
Has anyone here tried https://www.monicahq.com/. It’s an open source contact management software. Can also be self-hosted.
I was planning on trying it. In case anyone else has, would like to get feedback.
If not, will try to submit my feedback as a complete noob at self-hosting.
This one has been in my radar from a long time. IIRC from the last Fosdem Ive seen it from it seeks to be a sort of a CRM software, like a selfhosted DIY Facebook page for other people (your contacts/clients).
The name Monica was from Friends sitcom.
I think its available from TrueNAS TrueCharts?
Did anything ever come of this? Seeking open source CRM that isnt also spyware. Market options seem to be low-poly spreadsheets & databases → hubspot/salesforce
I dont see it in TrueNAS Scale Apps. You can still probably install it via docker. I dont have a use case for it now so I am not inclined to try it.
Have you looked at Odoo (The software is licensed under GNU LGPLv3)
Greetings @cohesiveparticle, (and all who view this)
I hope you are doing well, I am just letting you know that I have looked into https://www.monicahq.com/ for a FOSS self-hostable personal contact managment software.
And there seems to be one, glaring problem with it, Monica does not have E2EE., the author has stated in this thread (as well as in other parts of it) that he will never hass E2EE for database and search reasons. End-to-End Encryption · Issue #543 · monicahq/monica · GitHub
I feel it is a shame, this tool is everything I look for, but the risks are just too high. If you use the online version anyone with root access can view all your personal connections, and if you self host and there is a compromise on your own device or VPS through exploit or actor, all your data is at risk.
I recently started to see if there is a method someone could to for self-hosting on your own device, to make this as secure as possible, I will link a post to that at a later date.
Thank you for reading, and I can’t wait to keep you all updated on my time working on securing Monica!
Best,
Neil Oliver
