At risk of sounding like a dick, at what point does this become the mistake of people choosing to and trusting to use such devices and products and services? I mean, I would imagine at some point itâs the users fault as much if not more than the nightmarish tech from the company.
Iâm actually genuinely thinking about it. It surely depends on oneâs own philosophical bend but is a thinker for sure.
âShe says there is a clear transparency problem: users may not realise that the camera is recording when they begin speaking to the AI assistant.â
ââŚfew people truly consider what they are agreeing to when they start using services such as Metaâs glasses. âThe user really has no idea what is happening behind the scenesâ, says Petter Flink.ââ
When I was a normie, I wouldnât have given a single thought to privacy before using these glasses if they had been available. My general thought process would be âMeta is a big company, and they say they care about privacy on their webpage so itâs fine.â After I became privacy conscious and learned a lot about technology, I realized that the majority of people canât even properly explain what an IP address is, let alone give a second thought to tech like smart glasses.
I think we need to find better ways to communicate with normies(I actually hate calling people that).
This type of awareness should be imbibed during their formal education in school itself.
Too bad the quality of education varies a lot and such things are not valued at all. Keeping the populous dumb is what big brother wants anyway.
Everything we know actually should be common knowledge
Does it really matter? In the US we donât allow drive throughs to serve alcohol, mostly, even if the driver is responsible for their choice to consume it while on the road. Even if you are okay with forcing alcoholics to pass drive through alcohol billboards every time they go to work because you think itâs their fault if they drink, the people around them put at risk had nothing to do with that decision.
However, I would say it is also an issue to let companies prey on the alcoholicâs vulnerabilities or misunderstandings for profit. Advocating personal responsibility doesnât mean we canât try to make it easy for people to do the right thing.
