Tuta mail does it too
Thatās not true. Youāre account is locked for 48 hours, then you can freely use it even if created using a VPN.
That is not what happened to me lol
Just tried creating my account but it didnāt complete after finalizing with the recovery code. Because I was using a VPN and my own domain as recovery mail. Those were 2 examples of the reasons why it could have failed, try again in 24h is the message.
Does Mailfence have zero-access encryption like Proton Mail, Mailbox.org, Tutanota, and Posteo? Otherwise I donāt see why it should be recommended on here since IMAP isnāt available for free accounts.
Also, according to FAQ, anonymous payments (Cash and Monero) arenāt accepted although itās not much of a concern if youāre using your real name anyways.
According to their blog they added encryption at rest earlier this year:
But the blog post does not explain how this works with IMAP support, which they also have (without a bridge).
Iām a bit concerned about them disappearing from this thread and the Reddit thread on the topic without answering usersā questions about how the encryption works.
I desperately want to find a good alternative to Mailbox.org and I was hoping MailFence may have been that option but none of this gives me confidence (canāt use ProtonMail/Tuta due to no CardDAV support).
Might Posteo be a solution for you? They support encryption at rest using the public key you supply. Iāve been using them for 3 months. Webmail and calendar and migration inbound and customer support are awful but itās cheap and imap/smtp have been solid. Oh they donāt support custom domains either.
But is it zero knowledge encryption?
As long as you donāt mind everyone spoofing your email addresses and scamming others under your name marked as legitimate.
Thatās what Iāve been trying to figure out - and the question they didnāt respond to in that Reddit topic.
Itās conspicuous that they disappeared from both here and there when asked for details about it. Especially because both threads were started by them! Not encouraging.
Unfortunately, that is not what happened when I reached out to that address. Instead, they told me to use a different IP.
