Security researchers at Calif posted on X that they were able to exploit an iPhone 18 Pro despite Lockdown Mode, a setting that's designed to make your device more resistant to exploits.

Is this a duplication of this one or is a new case?

Same one, and it’s actually surprising how little traction this is getting considering how insane this exploit is:

latest and greatest iPhone 18 with the latest and greatest hardware security (MTE, CPA2)
fresh OS (latest patch -1 probably)
Lockdown mode (meant to harden Apple services)
gets cracked by a PDF accepted over AirDrop
survives updates and persists in BFU

I’m surprised; there’s very little information available regarding this vulnerability, which appears to be a first—and a significant one at that, given how heavily Apple promotes this particular protection.

Yeah it’s wild Calif has been on a roll. I’ll be interested to see how they did it once they can release the details.

@fria should we merge the threads?

This is the thread for the article I wrote about it so it’s technically different. Keeping it separate I can get corrections etc here.
