LinkedIn sued for allegedly training AI models with private messages without consent

From the time that Microsoft took over Linkedin, they were bound to turn to shit.

It was one of the last social media platforms I kept an account on, because of work, but I deleted even Linkedin last year because of how bad it was getting.

The funny thing is… I got a much better job with a better salary after that, with no Linkedin profile. I realized then that I didn’t need it.

Congrats on the new job. :tada:

I’m surprised you found a job that did not require a LinkedIn. I’m curious if something has changed in the recruiting space. I had to get a LinkedIn account last year for the first time because every job required a LinkedIn to even apply.

Did you notice this during your search? Or did you intentionally apply to places that don’t require it?

I guess it all depends on the job role and also where you do apply (locally or remotely :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:).

Would be nice to also get rid of LinkedIn but quite hard for sure unless being extremely well known into a space for specific skills…

Very true. You’d think the tech industry would at least allow a github profile as an alternative. Hiring is so broken.

I’m now realizing this post is a year old :weary_cat:.

*thought this would be a descent question: How to apply to jobs without social media (LinkedIn included)? Is this possible anymore?.

Oh that’s still a thing tho. It’s just the fact that you as a developer also need to find the post. There are job boards but they might not have the latest/greatest in terms of positions. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Still doable I think.

There’s probably a cultural difference, as I’m in Germany and things are much more privacy-sensitive here due to history.

I didn’t know that the employer didn’t require it, I just applied through one of the job platforms where you can send the application directly without having to use ‘apply via linkedin’.

Once I started working here, I realized how many of my colleagues also didn’t have a linkedin profile. But that’s normal for Germany.

We can share tips and tricks on a forum like this, but we can’t really share cultural history in a way that will make other countries pay attention to the warnings from history.

Those things are overall very useless IMO, never saw the point. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
